Vodafone M-PESA Customer Services


Deposit Cash

  • Before you can send money to anyone or purchase Vodacom airtime you need to deposit cash into your M-PESA account.
  • Go to an M-PESA agent and provide the following:
    • Your Vodacom mobile number
    • Amount of cash you want to deposit
    • Original ID document that was used to register for the service
  • The M-PESA agent will confirm the information you supply and then perform the deposit transaction from the Agent phone. Wait for an SMS that will provide you and the agent the same receipt number for the transaction.
  • Hand over the cash to the agent once the receipt numbers have been confirmed.
  • Your M-PESA account will be credited with the same amount of cash that was given to the agent.
  • Sign the Agent Log book which will be stored for record keeping purposes.

Note: Depositing cash is FREE of charge and available only to registered M-PESA customers. You should always receive the same value deposited into your account as you have handed to the agent.
 

Send Money

  • Registered M-PESA customers can send money to any mobile subscriber in Tanzania.
    • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu
    • Select reply and enter menu option 1
    • Select reply and enter the phone number of the person you want to send money to.
    • Select reply and enter the amount you want to send
    • Select reply and enter your secret PIN Number
    • Confirm contents of the message displayed. Check the recipient phone number and amount carefully to ensure they are correct. Thenpress OK to proceed with the transaction.
    • You will receive a confirmation SMS which contains a receipt number for tracing purposes. Please save this SMS for your records.

Note: Sending money is chargeable according to published M-PESA tariffs. Ensure you have sufficient money in your M-PESA account to cover transfer amount and send money fee as per tariffs.
 

Withdraw cash

  • First, confirm that the agent has sufficient cash available for you to withdraw.
  • You do not have to withdraw all the money from your M-PESA account in one go. You can leave money in your account that can be withdrawn at a later date. There is no charge for keeping money in your account.
  • To withdraw cash:
  1. Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu
  2. Select reply and enter option 2 ie. 'Withdraw Cash'
  3. Select reply and enter the Agent Number. The agent number is displayed in the Agents store. It is a 5-digit number.
  4. Select reply and enter the amount to withdraw
  5. Select reply and enter your secret PIN Number
  6. Confirm your transaction details from the message displayed. Please ensure that the agent number and amount are correct.Then press OK to conclude the transaction.
  7. The agent receives an SMS that includes a receipt number and an instruction to give you the cash you have requested.
  8. Wait for your confirmation SMS with the same receipt number displayed in the SMS.
  9. Sign the Agent Log book which will be stored for record keeping purposes.

Note: This service is chargeable according to published M-PESA tariffs.
 

Unregistered M-PESA customers


An unregistered M-PESA customer must withdraw all the money sent by a registered M-PESA customer.

  • M-PESA users must advise the recipient (eg: family member or friend) that you are sending money to them using M-PESA. The recipient will receive a Confirmation SMS informing them that they have been sent money. This SMS is important and must be stored.
  • To withdraw the money sent, the recipient must go to any M-PESA agent or Vodashop.
  1. The recipient must provide the following:
  • Confirmation SMS, specifically the M-PESA code within the SMS
  • Recipient's mobile phone number
  • Original photo ID: Passport, Pension's fund card (NSSF, PPF etc), voter's ID card, employer's ID card from a reputable company or a letter from ward/ village executive officer that includes a photo and an official stamp.
  1. The Agent will verify the M-PESA code.
  2. Both the recipient and the Agent will receive an SMS confirmation message and the cash will be handed to the recipient.
  3. Recipient must sign the Agent Log book.

 
Note: For unregistered users, there is no charge to withdraw cash. Therefore the full value sent will be paid out to the recipient.
In the event that the customer does not withdraw the cash received via an M-PESA transfer within 7 days, the money will be sent back to the Sender's M-PESA account.
 

Buy Airtime

  • Your M-PESA account exists separately from a standard Vodacom prepaid airtime account. You can purchase Vodacom airtime using your M-PESA value but you cannot convert airtime into M-PESA value.
  • M-PESA customers can buy airtime for their own or any other Vodacom prepaid customer from a minimum value of Tsh 250. Buying airtime is FREE of charge!  
  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu 
  • Select reply and enter menu option 3   ie: 'Buy Airtime'  
  • If you are buying airtime for yourself, reply with option 1  ie: 'My Phone'. Then select reply and enter the amount of airtime you wish to purchase. 
  • If you are purchasing airtime for another Vodacom Prepaid customer (Eg: your friend or relative) reply with option 2   ie: 'Other Phone'
  • Select reply and enter the mobile number to be recharged. Select reply and enter the amount of airtime you wish to purchase.

Note: Please check that the amount and mobile number are correct before confirming. Only when you are confident that the details are correct, press OK to confirm and continue. 

  • Select reply and enter your secret PIN. You will receive a recharge / airtime purchase confirmation SMS from M-PESA also confirming your new M-PESA balance. 
     

My Account

Show Balance: Your balance is also indicated at the end of every transaction in the confirmation SMS. You can also view your current M-PESA balance at any time. 

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu
  • Select reply and enter the menu number for My Account
  • Select reply and enter 1 for Show Balance
  • Select reply and enter PIN number
  • Wait for the SMS confirmation message with your balance

Change PIN: Change your M-PESA access PIN at any time to ensure that any you are able to access your M-PESA account.

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu
  • Select reply and enter the menu number for My Account
  • Select reply and enter 2 for Change PIN
  • Select reply and enter your old PIN
  • Select reply and enter your new PIN number
  • Wait for the SMS confirmation message

Language: Choose to display your M-PESA menu in either English or Swahili.

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu
  • Select reply and enter the menu number for My Account
  • Select reply and enter 3 for Language
  • Select reply and enter either 1 or 2 depending on your language preference
  • Select reply and enter your PIN number 
  • The menu will appear in your chosen language the next time you access it by dialling *150*00#

Note: My Account services are available charged as per published M-PESA tariffs.
 

Pay Bill

Buy LUKU:

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu 
  • Select reply and enter the menu number for Pay Bill (5)
  • Select reply and enter the business number for LUKU (100300) 
  • Select reply and enter the meter number 
  • Select reply and enter the amount you want to purchase (From Tsh 3,000 and maximum Tsh 500,000) 
  • Select reply and enter your PIN number 
  • Select reply and enter 1 to confirm your remaining balance   

Pay your Monthly DSTV Subscriptions:

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu 
  • Select reply and enter the menu for Pay Bill (5) 
  • Select reply and enter the business number for DSTV (300000) 
  • Select reply and enter your smartcard number 
  • Select reply and enter the amount you want to subscribe 
  • Select reply and enter your PIN number 
  • Select reply and enter 1 to confirm your transaction 

Pay Post-paid Bill:

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu   
  • Select reply and enter the menu number for Pay Bill (5) 
  • Select reply and enter the business Vodacom Post-paid (100100) 
  • Select reply and enter the customer's mobile number 
  • Select reply and enter the amount you want to pay 
  • Select reply and enter your PIN number  
  • Select reply and enter 1 to confirm your transaction 


Pay DAWASCO Bill:

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu 
  • Select reply and enter the menu number for Pay Bill (5) 
  • Select reply and enter the business DAWASCO number (100500) 
  • Select reply and enter the customer's DAWASCO account number 
  • Select reply and enter the amount you want to pay 
  • Select reply and enter your PIN number 
  • Select reply and enter 1 to confirm your transaction 


Repay loans to Tujijenge Tanzania:

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu 
  • Select reply and enter the menu number for Pay Bill (5) 
  • Select reply and enter the business number for Tujijenge Tanzania (100400) 
  • Select reply and enter the Tujijenge Tanzania's bank account number  
  • Select reply and enter the amount you want to repay 
  • Select reply and enter your PIN number 
  • Select reply and enter 1 to confirm your transaction 


Contribute on the development of Simba or Young Africans Sports Club:

  • Enter *150*00# and press the dial button to access the M-PESA menu 
  • Select reply and enter the menu number for Pay Bill (5) 
  • Select reply and enter the business number for either Simba (500500) or Young Africans (200200) 
  • Select reply and enter the reference number - membership card number or your Vodacom mobile number  
  • Select reply and enter the amount you want to contribute (From Tsh 2,000 and above) 
  • Select reply and enter your PIN number
