Vodafone M-PESA Agent Account

 

A Store Assistant can manage their M-PESA business by going to the M-PESA menu and selecting 'Agent Account'
 
Show Balance: Store Assistant can check the M-PESA store float balance:

  • Select 'Show Balance', press Ok
  • Enter Assistant ID (Asst ID on the handset) and PIN, press Ok
  • Wait for SMS with balance to be displayed. 
  • Note: The account balance is also shown at the end of every SMS that follows a transaction. 

Change PIN: Store Assistants can change their PIN for security reasons.

  • Select 'Change PIN'
  • Enter Assistant ID (Asst ID on the handset) and press Ok
  • Enter old PIN, press Ok
  • Enter new PIN
  • Confirm the new PIN by entering it again, and then press Ok
  • Wait for M-PESA to reply. You will receive the message "Your new PIN number has been confirmed".

 

Secret Word


All M‑PESA Store Assistants have a 'Secret Word', which is received when the assistant is registered on the M-PESA system. The 'Secret Word' helps to identify M-PESA Store Assistants whenever they seek assistance from Customer Care.
 
Store Assistants can change the secret word to something they can easily remember.

  • Select 'Secret Word',
  • Enter the new Secret word, press OK.
  • Enter Assistant ID (Asst ID on the handset) and then press OK.
  • Enter PIN number then press OK.

A confirmation message will appear displaying the new secret word then press OK. An SMS will be sent to confirm the successful change of the Secret Word.
 


Language


The Primary Assistant can choose the language the agent phone will operate in.

  • Select 'Language', press Ok.
  • Choose either English or Kiswahili, press Ok.
  • Enter Assistant ID (Asst ID on the handset), and press Ok.
  • Enter PIN number, press Ok.
  • Wait for M-PESA to reply.
  • Language change is confirmed through a display that reads 'M-PESA'.
  • Press OK.

 
Update Menu


Sometimes an updated menu may need to be requested from the M-PESA system. This is usually required if new functionality is added to the M-PESA system. Only a Primary Assistant may make this request.

  • Select 'Update Menu', press Ok. 
  • Enter Assistant ID (Asst ID on the handset), and press OK
  • Enter PIN number, press OK.
  • Wait for M-PESA to reply with an updated menu.

 
New Assistant


The Primary Assistant is the only one who can perform functions such as registering and removing another assistant.
 
To create a new assistant, the Primary Assistant will do the following:

  • Select 'Agent Account'.
  • Choose 'New Assistant', press OK.
  • Enter new first name - the assistant's first name, press OK. (mandatory)
  • Enter new second name - the assistant's middle name if they have one (optional), press OK.
  • Enter new last name - the assistant's surname, press OK (mandatory)
  • New form of ID [choose from list]
  • New ID number - Enter the corresponding ID number. If a letter from a Ward Executive Officer (WEO) or Village Executive Officer (VEO) is provided then capture the name of the WEO / VEO. Note: these must all be between 4 and 16 characters - alphanumeric.
  • New Date of birth - Enter assistants' date of birth in this format ddmmyyyy. If the Assistant does not know the day or months of birth then enter 0000YYYY.
  • Enter New Assistant ID (2 characters) - the Assistants initials can normally be used e.g. EN, press Ok
  • Primary Assistant enters their own Assistant ID (Asst ID on the handset) and PIN number.
  • Wait for a confirmation message that will display a 'Start Key' and a 'Secret Word' for the new assistant.

 
To activate the new assistant on the agent account, the new assistant will use the same agent phone used to register them to create a new PIN number. The assistant will not be able to perform M-PESA transactions until they have changed their PIN number: -

  • Select 'Agent Account'
  • Select 'Change PIN number', press Ok
  • Enter the Assistant ID (Asst ID )
  • Enter old PIN number - in this case, the 'Start Key' given in the registration SMS
  • Enter new PIN number - choose a new 4-digit PIN number, press Ok
  • Confirm new PIN number, enter the new PIN number again, press Ok
  • Wait for M-PESA to reply
  • Agent will receive the message "Your new PIN number has been confirmed".


Remove Assistant


An assistant may be removed if their roles change in the Agency store or if they cease to work for the Agency Store.
To remove / delete an old M-PESA Store Assistant, the Primary Assistant should do the following:

  • On the M-PESA menu, select 'Agent Account'
  • Select 'Remove Assistant', and press Ok
  • Remove Assistant ID - enter the Assistant ID to be removed, e.g. AN
  • Enter Assistant ID (Asst ID on the handset) - Primary Assistant enters their own Assistant ID, then press Ok
  • Enter PIN number -Primary Assistant enters their own PIN number, press Ok
  • The Primary Assistant will be prompted by M-PESA to confirm the removal of an assistant"remove assistant AN". Please ensure that the details are correct before proceeding. Once satisfied that it is correct, proceed by pressing OK.
  • Wait for M-PESA to reply
  • Primary assistant will receive the message "M-PESA Assistant with ID AN was removed on dd/mm/yyyy at 00:00:00".
