POLICY

Vodacom Group of Companies, which provides and maintains cellular telecommunications networks including infrastructure and services, considers its own employees, employees of its business partners, customers and the public at large as deserving of a safe and healthy workplace.

Vodacom will as far as reasonably practicable, undertake to safeguard all employees as well as any other persons on Vodacom premises, against injury / disease and unhealthy conditions / industrial accidents that may arise from Vodacom activities and comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 85 of 1993 and its associated Regulations as amended and also comply with the applicable occupational health and safety, legal or other requirements, in operations outside South Africa.

This will be achieved through identification, evaluation and controlling of hazards in conjunction with a health and safety program underpinned by the following principles:

 

  • To encourage reasonably practicable safe / healthy working practices by means of raising awareness, training and education and complying with the applicable legislation, preventing occupational / industrial accidents and overcoming occupational illness.

 

  • To implement / provide and maintain a system that will ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, compliance and adoption of the applicable safety codes, standards and general best practices as well as secure health assistance and such related services in the work environment.

 

  • To implement and maintain systems and processes to prevent the activities of the company from causing harm or injury and / or industrial accidents and to manage and overcome community health endemics in the work environment.

 

  • To ensure that hygiene standards in all food handling, serving and dining areas conform to best practice based on internationally accepted standards.

 

  • To ensure Vodacom Group standards, policies and procedures will be applicable to all Vodacom Group operations**.

   

  • To measure compliance by auditing at regular intervals and monitoring occupational health and safety indicators.

 

  • To continually improve its health, safety and welfare system, standards and practices.

 

  • To ensure that this Health and Safety Policy is reviewed as and when appropriate.

 

  • To ensure Vodacom Group standards, policies and procedures will be available and communicated to all employees, contractors and other affected and interested parties.  

** NOTE: Whenever legislation / standards / codes outside the borders of South Africa is non-specific or less enforcing, South African legislation will be used as the guideline and applied, where reasonably practicable, as such over and above the local requirements.
