Environmental Policy
Vodacom Group of Companies, which provides and maintains
cellular telecommunications networks including infrastructure and
services recognises, that meeting the needs of clients includes
accepting responsibility for environmental impacts associated with
the company's activities. Vodacom will as far as reasonably
practical, undertake to safeguard the Environment against harm that
may arise from Vodacom activities.
To ensure that these impacts are minimised and managed in a
sound and responsible way Vodacom is committed to the principles
and conditions set out in this Corporate Policy.
Vodacom is committed to:
- Managing, designing, siting and constructing operational
facilities with the aim of minimising adverse impacts on the
social, biophysical, cultural and historical environment.
- The prevention of pollution.
- Complying with applicable legal requirements, codes of best
practice and internal standards which relate to Vodacom's
environmental aspects.
- Providing a framework for continual environmental improvement,
allowing for the adoption of new ideas and innovation.
- Empowering employees to manage environmental issues as integral
part of the job and establishing systems that allow for employee
training and establishment of clear accountability for
environmental performance.
- Promoting the sustainable use of natural resources
(electricity, water and materials) at all buildings and
installations to achieve the lowest practicable level of usage
commensurate with operational needs.
- Minimising waste through the application of reduce, re-use and
recycle principles wherever practicable and ensuring unavoidable
waste is disposed of responsibly.
- Working in partnership with suppliers and contractors with the
aim of sharing knowledge, setting standards and improving
environmental performance in the supply chain.
- Maintaining stakeholder confidence in the environmental aspects
of Vodacom's operations by being open and responsive to the
legitimate concerns of customers, business partners, members of the
public and the regulators at national, provincial and local
level.
- Engaging with the authorities toward the development of
effective legislation, regulations and standards to safeguard the
community, employees and the environment.
- Regular monitoring and auditing against established
environmental objectives and targets for improving environmental
performance.
- Reporting and communicating Vodacom's environmental
performance.
- Exploring opportunities to reduce greenhouse gases through
transport efficiency and the incorporation of energy efficient
design criteria into new services, buildings and equipment.
